Albert Einstein (1879-1955), the theoretical physicist, is regarded as the most famous scientist of the 20th century, and his E=mc2, the best-known equation, became the most recognized face on Earth.

In 1896, Einstein enrolled in the four-year mathematics and physics teaching diploma program at the Zurich Polytechnic in Switzerland. He did not find a teaching position, and a friend’s father helped him secure a job as a patent examiner in Bern.

At age 26, Einstein revolutionized accepted views of the universe with his ideas and theories on the nature of energy, matter, motion, time, and space, winning the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921. He was also renowned as a humanitarian and philosopher whose contributions made him one of the most compelling figures in history.
